The Titanic Historical Society Treasurer who infamously dismissed Ruth Becker in 1982 that the Titanic broke in two died in 1991.

Louis O. Gorman was the Titanic Historical Society Treasurer who took Ruth Becker’s microphone away at a Titanic convention after she told the audience that the Titanic broke in half. A commenter declared that according to Don Lynch the THS disallowed Gorman from attending any conventions after that from how horribly the organization as a whole treated a survivor.

I found a link mentioning him in 1986 regarding the protection of the wreck. Following some research on Newspapers.com which corroborated that he was the Treasure, he died in 1991.

I have to ask, was the breakup theory a hotly debated subject in 1982 or was Ruth Becker known even among the Titanic historians for spreading anecdotal stuff? I could see some WSL official flat out dismissing a Titanic survivor like that during WW1 or the 1920s but certainly not 70 years later in 1982. Makes me wonder if there is more to the story with this including Lou Gorman‘s mentality? Ships breaking in half are far from unheard of so rationally speaking it makes no sense for him to just snap like that over something he had probably never heard of before.
