CEO spying on chat

Today, my CEO said that he is “creepily monitoring and reading our teams chat” because he has “that privilege” and it immediately annoyed me. Not because I have anything to hide, I am all business at work and do not like gossip or getting involved with company drama or politics. Basically I do not like the corporate life but I like the money and stability corporate life provides. What are your thoughts on this? I don’t think he had bad intentions he was trying to acknowledge our teamwork and collaboration but it still weirded me out. I always knew employers have access to our chats but always thought they wouldn’t read them unless they had a reason to, I would think a ceo has better things to do than to spy on our messages. It makes me wonder what else he is spying on since we work remote. What are your thoughts?
