Hayes and Noodles comments on public transit and bike lanes
I took issue with Hayes and Noodles' comments on the Gardiner, bike lanes, and public transit. I thought it was disrespectful to the people who actually live in this city, many of whom actually do take public transit, and yes, even the bike lanes. The vast majority of fans going to these games are not doing so by driving, and just because Hayes and Noodles only talk to that small minority of carbuburbanites and city-driving fools does not mean that they are above everyone else.
I can't stand it when entitled drivers complain about things like traffic, or construction as if they aren't on the most heavily subsidized mode of transportation, and are directly causing those two problems. Yeah there's traffic, and you're part of it, and yes there's construction, your SUV is causing heavy wear and tear on the supports of the highway.
You'll never solve traffic even if you made the gardiner as wide as Whitby, because you're all still funneling in to narrower streets on York, Front, Richmond and Adelaide, or wherever else. If you are mad at traffic, the GO stations have free parking, or hey, there isn't much traffic in the bike lane, go break a sweat!
I say this as someone who could drive, but chooses not to when heading downtown, because why would anyone choose that if they have the option?
I know its not the most on topic, but it just came to my head as soon as they said it how frustrating it is to hear these same tired talking points that are subtly misinformed and misinforming. Love the rest of the show, and am usually a big Hayes fan, but today put a sour taste in my mouth
