Photos barely take up space despite storage being full

I'm clearing out old screenshots and memes I had backup on for in 2022 and have over 2000 items selected from January 2022. A few days ago if I deleted something it gave me a reasonable amount of space cleared up but now these 2000 items are like 3 mega bites. I can find stuff about a June 2021 cutoff, but everything after that is barely taking up any space even though all 15 GB are full
