Getting into the field (advice)

So recently got out of the Navy, used to do AE (Aviation Electrician) and looking to my A&P license. Have had some friends tell me to do apprenticeship with airline companies and some to just go to school. I'm looking to do IA in the long term. Any advice of career paths or which route would be more beneficial. Also looking for which company might be easier or quicker to get into. Thank you in advance.
