Help me figure out an outdoor setup
Okay I need some help before I frankenstein my skates into something unsafe lol.
Current setup:
- Riedell 220 Boots with Arius Plate (my main indoor setup - I love this, don’t want to mess it up)
- A second pair with Pilot Falcon Plates on a really bad boot that I want to replace
I also have Airwave Wheels (65mm) that I LOVE for outdoors
Here’s the issue:
I tried putting the Airwaves on my Arius setup and they technically go on… but the axle is too short so the nut barely threads on. Which feels like a great way to die at speed.
So now I’m trying to figure out the smartest move:
Option 1:
Keep my Riedell 220 + Arius as-is (indoor only) and build a proper outdoor setup using my Pilot Falcons + new boot + Airwaves
Option 2:
Somehow make Airwaves work on the Arius (different nuts? shaving wheels? witchcraft?)
Option 3:
Abandon 65mm and find a slightly smaller outdoor wheel that actually fits the Arius properly
My goals:
- Outdoor skating (streets, beach path, etc.)
- Still be able to hit smooth concrete without feeling like I’m on monster truck tires
- Avoid constantly swapping wheels if I can
Also… is cutting Airwaves a thing or am I about to commit skate crimes?
Would love to hear what setups you’re running if you do both outdoor + indoor without switching everything constantly
