I have a completely different view of American travelers now
For reference, I'm Canadian. Late 30's, well travelled. Been to every continent except Antarctica. Just coming back from a trip to Mexico, where my family stayed at an all-inclusive (not my typical trip, but with young kids it was just easier).
Everywhere I've been, American travelers have been the same stereotype. Loud, arrogant and, most of all, oblivious. Exceptions exist, but the stereotype is there for a reason.
The behavior hasn't changed- typical main character energy. Walking around with a Bluetooth speaker playing godawful music on an otherwise quiet beach; kids acting like typical frat boy douche bags; people tipping a WHOLE AMERICAN DOLLAR (when others are tipping the equivalent of $20) and expecting to be treated like a king. Expecting "American food" in a different country. Etc.
In the past I've rolled my eyes at it. The ignorance, while annoying, didn't really affect me. The lack of class or culture was their loss. But this time it felt different. With the orange turd in power trying to start WW3, it just makes me angry. The same obliviousness, the same arrogance and "me first" (and only) attitude is the cause of so many problems globally.
So I say this as a Canadian who used to be indifferent and used to visit the US often. Fuck all of you for doing this to the world. And thanks for reading my rant.
Cheers
