I had a mental break down, went to hospital for 4 days. I came back to hell and a husband whose trying to support me while BM tries to use this against me.

Advice

recently went through a serious mental and medical health crisis after holding a lot in for a long time. For years, I’ve been the steady one in the household—managing stress, supporting everyone, and pushing through things without much help. I had been asking for support and relief for a while, but it never really came in a consistent way. Eventually, my body and mind hit a limit. It wasn’t something I chose or planned—it was a full system overload. During that time, I wasn’t trying to hurt myself, but I ended up accidentally cutting my fingers badly. It became a real medical and mental health situation that I needed care for.

I’m now trying to recover and stabilize, but the family dynamic has been really hard. When my stepkids came over, my stepdaughter greeted me warmly, but my stepson barely acknowledged me and walked past. My husband stepped in to talk to him, and I later overheard my stepson complaining about me, saying things like “I’ll do whatever you want… but…” in a frustrated tone. That was the point where I removed myself and went outside because I felt hurt and didn’t want to escalate anything.

My husband came outside and sat with me, and I explained that I feel like I’m being treated as a problem, when in reality I had a crisis after trying to hold everything together for too long. I told him it feels unfair that I’m expected to just come out of this “better” and handle being treated differently. He seemed to understand, and I told him I needed space because being inside under tension and feeling avoided was too much in that moment. While I was still upset, my stepson came outside asking my husband to handle something inside, and my husband immediately got up and left, which made me feel even more alone.

I’m trying to heal, but I feel stuck in an environment where I’m walking on eggshells and being viewed through the lens of what happened instead of who I am. I don’t want to be seen as a problem to manage. I had a breaking point after years of carrying too much without support, and now I’m trying to rebuild while still living in the same environment that contributed to it. I’m doing my best to stay calm and handle things in a healthy way, but it still hurts, and I don’t know how to move forward in a way that protects my healing.

This is the only time I've had a major crisis in the 7 years. And now it's me.

I'm so hurt, alone and tired.
