Ultimate 4K/8K Video Editing Build (Intel Core Ultra 9 285K + RTX 4090) – Feedback Needed!

Discussion

Hi everyone,

I’m about to pull the trigger on a high-end workstation primarily for 4K/8K video editing(Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve) and some heavy After Effects work. I’ve spent some time researching, but I’d love a final sanity check from this community before I order everything.

Here is the planned part list:

CPU: Intel Core Ultra 9 285K (Arrow Lake)

Motherboard: ASUS ProArt Z890-CREATOR WIFI (LGA 1851)

GPU: ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4090 OC Edition 24GB

RAM: Corsair Vengeance 64GB (2x32GB) DDR5 6000MHz CL30

CPU Cooler: Arctic Liquid Freezer III 420mm (Front Mount)

Storage (OS): Samsung 990 Pro 1TB NVMe Gen 4

Storage (Project/Work): Crucial T705 2TB NVMe Gen 5

Storage (Cache/Scratch): Samsung 990 Pro 2TB NVMe Gen 4

PSU: ASUS ROG Thor 1200W Platinum III (ATX 3.1 compliant)

Case: Fractal Design North XL (Mesh/Charcoal Black)

Monitors: 2x ASUS ProArt PA329CRV (32" 4K UHD)

Peripherals: Logitech MX Master 3S + MX Keys S

Monitor Arm: Neomounts DS65S-950BL2 Dual Mount

A few specific questions:

RAM Stability: Is 6000MHz CL30/CL32 the sweet spot for the new Ultra 9 285K, or should I aim for 6400MHz?

Cooling: Will the 420mm Arctic AIO be enough for the 285K during long 4K renders? The North XL should fit it in the front, but has anyone tried this specific combo?

Storage: Is the Gen 5 SSD (Crucial T705) worth it for active project files, or is it overkill?

BTF Warning: I initially looked at the BTF (Back-to-the-future) GPU version, but I'm sticking with the standard one for motherboard compatibility. Does this make sense?

I’m aiming for a quiet, professional aesthetic (hence the Fractal North and ProArt theme). Any advice on airflow or potential bottlenecks I might have missed would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!
