I (37f, post hysterectomy, non smoker) have been having symptoms of stomach ulcer - fatigue, nausea, dark stools, rectal bleeding. Went to dr thinking I was anemic, tests came back showing the opposite. 

Back in 2023 i went through something similar and was told to stop taking all iron supplements when my iron sat came back at 59 percent, which I did. Shortly after this I got into a traumatic accident and nearly bled out from injuries, it took a year to recover. Labs were normal at that point and no vitamins have been taken since.

Recently some gi symptoms returned, so I went back to Dr and the labs show a concerning climb on the iron saturation level - now 73 percent.

I made an appointment with our local hematology dept to discuss why, but the earliest they had was August.

I've done some googling since and pulled out my old ancestry results, and did see that I was a HFE carrier - unlikely to be symptomatic, though.

Is anyone else a carrier with similar labs? 

Also, i know you all aren't able to give advice - but do you think I'm okay to wait until the end of summer to see the specialist, or should I travel to see someone sooner?

Some of these results are just borderline, so I know they can't be that bad - but I also don't want organ damage, my mother died of pancreatitis and I saw how painful it was for her.

I will be adjusting my diet and remove the poultry, as I do eat a lot of turkey (I haven't ate red meat in years) and spinach on my salads once a week or so. 

Is there anything I can eat to decrease the iron I already have stored? Or is this nothing to concern myself with?
