We need to all make an effort to resist the hostile takeover of Socionics in the typology space

Sage Advice

This is my call to anyone who's heavily into MBTI. There are a lot of people in the Socionics community who wish to overthrow MBTI, and view Socionics as the only valid theory of typology. I don't have a problem with Socionics existing, my problem is with people in the Socionics community who wish to invalidate MBTI. This should be resisted at all costs, and anyone who's a real one should heed this call.

I will give a few points about which I think you can critique these Socionists who think Socionics can replace MBTI.

Socionics people will claim that their system is superior to MBTI because it "contains more dichotomies". I disagree with this notion. I think "more dichotomies" doesn't make a model inherently better. The presence of more dichotomies is only good if it boosts the explanatory power of a model. Unless it does that, then additional complexity is superfluous and unnecessary. In spite of this fact that additional complexity isn't always better, you will commonly find that Socionists use the complexity of their model to argue that their model is better, without giving any further reasoning.

The other problem with Socionics is that you lose focus on the "subject", and things just become about "information". Socionics doesn't talk about the person or the subject enough, it just becomes about information. This is an inherent flaw in Socionics as a model, if your framework for general human psychology is influenced by Carl Jung. If you want a typology model that describes the subject adequately, you should look at "MBTI" in my opinion.

When I think of MBTI, I think that MBTI tells you "why" someone does what they do, but it doesn't tell you "what" they'll do. Socionics sort of reverses this and becomes a model about "what" someone does. My preference is for MBTI. Regardless of whether you agree with my preference, it should be seen that you cannot replace MBTI with Socionics, since Socionics does not have the same focal points as MBTI.

Socionics contains a lot of good ideas, but we must fight back against this strain of people online who believe that MBTI should be discarded. Such people wish to see a world where MBTI is eradicated and only Socionics exists in the typology space. This should be resisted, and there is a good theoretical basis for wanting to resist this.
