Anyone do Betta sororities in ponds?

Help

We’re buying a house so naturally I’m already planning my ponds. I’m thinking about doing 1 shallower pond specifically for a betta sorority. Anyone have experience with this? We live in a tropical area so cold weather is not an issue. I’m mostly concerned about the fact that I’ve never actually done a sorority before. It won’t be as visible as an aquarium would so how do I know that everyone is getting along?

I’m thinking it’ll be 4-5’ long, 1.5-2’ wide, and 18” deep (so about 80 gallons). I can plant it heavily but I would like to throw water lilies or lotuses in (which do need full sun and may be an issue for water temps cause it gets hot as hell here). I’m thinking about making a concrete planter box in an attempt to skirt the HOA’s rules about ponds needing to be 5’ in from the property line. Plus then, worst case scenario if we get caught/ fined is just moving them. I was thinking of doing wood + a pond liner but termites are an issue and that seems more pond like.

Thoughts? Opinions? Tips for success?
