Relocating from Southern US to NE US or Midwest

My spouse and I have spent our whole lives (38/39 years) in one place in the southern US. We would love to try out some place new. Currently, we are paying on a house worth about 300k. Where could we go that we could have a similar mortgage and a good neighborhood for a kid? Open to single family homes, condos, townhomes, etc.

We would LOVE someplace walkable/non-car centric. Even better are third spaces and areas that focus heavily on community engagement.
