$CSCO — the most boring ai beneficiary on the tape. nobody wants to own it. that's the trade.
Cisco is the punchline of tech investing. i get it. big slow incumbent, missed the cloud, got dunked on by arista for a decade. fine. all true.
Now look at what's actually happening. silicon one is real. optics are real. the 8000 and nexus refresh cycle is real. every hyperscaler needs more bandwidth and more routed optical every quarter and there is a very finite list of vendors who can ship that at scale. cisco is on the list whether reddit likes it or not.
Security is doing the thing splunk was supposed to do. the splunk deal was mocked as a bad-era-m&a cope play. except it's actually knitting into the cisco secure access bundle and the renewal numbers don't lie. annualized recurring revenue keeps grinding.
Consensus models cisco like a legacy networking box seller with 2% revenue growth forever. meanwhile the mix shift to software and subscriptions is already past 50% and nobody's giving them the multiple for it. $117 PT isn't heroic. it's just what happens when you stop discounting this like it's still cisco 2016.
It's not about Cisco becoming the next Palo Alto Networks, but rather investors realizing just how much stronger the company has already become.
