Cattery vs pet sitter, worried cat will be sad :(

General

We adopted a gorgeous 14 month old female cat last Saturday, and she really is wonderful. Shes our only pet. The fosterers said she loves company and she really does, staying with us all of the time so far! She isn’t timid, she’s settled really well and is eating and playing just fine. We are trying to get her into a nice little routine.

However, I stupidly thought placing her in a cattery for 6 nights when we go away in July was fine, but I’ve been told she’d probably really struggle and we should get someone to pop in and see her twice a day at her home instead.

I’ve found a pet sitter who can come in for 30 min in the AM and a friend who will come and play and cuddle her for an hour each evening. But I’m worried it won’t be enough for her.

Shes currently an indoor cat and we’re in the process of getting the garden cat proofed so can explore, but that wouldn’t be until after we are back.

The lay out of our home means that when she’s home alone we’ll need to confine her to one (reasonable sized!) room, which is her ‘safe space’. This is because as you come through the front door, if she has free run of the whole house she can just run straight out as there’s no doors to divide her away.

Is it cruel to keep her in one room for a week? She’d obviously be able to explore the house AM 30 mins and PM for an hour, but I feel so guilty. My only other option is a ‘pet sitter’ who stays overnight, but at £60 a night it’s totally out of our budget!

We are also going away for 2 weeks in November and that makes me even more uncomfortable!

Any recommendations?
