Deferred from UBC Science — still waiting, what are my chances?
Hi, I applied to the University of British Columbia for Science and Kinesiology (both with the Management option), and I was deferred from the first round. It’s now late April and I’m still under review, so I’m starting to get a bit worried and wanted to see what others think.
My overall average across Grade 11 and 12 is around 91%, and my Grade 12 average is about 90%. My marks are generally in the low 90s, but my Bio and Chem 30 are both 86. I’ve taken 5 APs in total and have only gotten 4s/5s.
For extracurriculars, I’ve tried to stay pretty involved. I went to the Canada-Wide Science Fair for a project on stroke treatment, I’m active in debate (provincial level + mentoring), and I’m co-president of student council where I help run school initiatives and fundraisers. I’m also involved in organisation of Youth Parliament at a provincial level, and I’m part of my school’s UNESCO club.
Since it’s getting pretty late and I heard back yet, I was wondering if anyone with similar stats has been accepted/rejected or is still waiting. Do I still have a realistic shot at UBC Science?
