X870E AORUS ELITE WIFI7 (Rev. 1.2) - latest bios borks UEFI boot list
I made the as some might say stupid mistake of updating my bios, A task which I have done on this board and many other boards before with no issue in the past...
But in this instance it has "somehow" corrupted the UEFI boot list. I can no longer see or change the boot order. All I see now is one of the SATA drives incorrectly showing as the 'Windows boot volume' when in fact that drive has Linux on it - so technically I should be booting into linux or not at all...
- I did a full reset of the bios, - no change, UEFI boot list/order still broken/corrupted.
- I tried flashing older bios's all the way back to FA5, which was on my motherboard before I did the update to FB1a - no change.
- I even tried doing as bios flash-back via the rear i/o panel - no change.
I then unplugged all the SATA devices to see if the mobo would re-detect the 2x NVME drives. In short the motherboard will 'ONLY' see them if I set 'CSM to legacy'. If I have it set to 'UEFI only', the motherboard does not see the drives and will not boot. And side note, when I have CSM set to 'UEFI only' and I go to inspect either of the NVME drives in the bios, the computer freezes and I have to do a hard shut down. So something is seruiosly wrong with the bios and whats ever the hell it has done.
Considering this bios is the second bios Gigabyte have released for the latest 9000 series CPU's, this a poor show. Now lets see how long it take Gigabyte UK support to come up with a fixed bios, and if they can't to that its going to be an advanced replacement.
