Community College Prerequisites for Texas Med School After Canadian Undergrad?

🤠 TMDSAS

I’m currently a Canadian citizen and a U.S. permanent resident, and I completed my undergraduate degree at a Canadian university. I currently live in Texas and am planning to apply to medical schools here.

I noticed that many schools require prerequisite courses to be completed at a U.S. institution, so since I’ve already graduated, I’ll likely need to complete some of my remaining prerequisites at a community college. I still need to complete Organic Chemistry I & II and Biochemistry, as I haven’t taken those yet.

My current GPA is 3.71, but my science GPA is lower mainly because I struggled a lot during my first semester of university before I figured out how to study effectively. After that, my grades improved significantly, and my last two years were straight 4.0s, showing a strong upward trend. I’m wondering if completing these remaining prerequisites at a community college and performing better in those science courses than I did during my first year of university would look bad to medical schools, or if they would take my overall academic improvement and strong upward trend into consideration.

I also wanted to ask if anyone has suggestions for where I should complete these prerequisites in Texas, whether there are specific community colleges that are known to be better options for premed students preparing for medical school applications.
