How I would’ve made the movie better

I bet you read the title and thought this would be another fan rewrite, right? WRONG!

I can make the movie better without changing a single thing about it by simply changing the way it was marketed.

We all know the plot was lackluster and the best part of the movie are the references and Easter eggs. So, why were the coolest ones spoiled in the trailers?

Imagine if all we got of the casino scene in the trailers was just the initial scene of the ninjis. It’s enough to get people thinking if there will be other SMB2 characters. Imagine the hype and surprise of seeing Wart for the first time on the big screen. Imagine seeing Fox, with no context or spoilers from the marketing, you just walked into a Mario Galaxy movie and all of a sudden Fox is here. Same with Fury Jr.

If these moments weren’t shown in the trailer, we would’ve seen them for the first time in the theatre, which would’ve been so hype. Yes, the plot still sucks and people still would’ve complained, but the hype feelings would’ve softened the blow by a lot. Much of the discourse would be more like “yeah ok the plot sucked BUT HOW COOL WAS IT THAT WART WAS THERE! When fox showed up I was so surprised!”

I get they put these in the trailers to drum up interest in the movie, but it made for a much worse experience. Instead, I think the trailers should’ve focused more on Bowser. Him kissing Mario should’ve been in the trailers, the brief scenes of him being a part of Mario’s group should’ve been there. The some scenes in the trailer of him struggling between liking the bros and pleasing his son. The scene of him saying “I know they’re totally lame, but don’t kill them!” That would’ve gotten people talking and interested in where Bowsers arc was going. It would’ve spoiled the plot a little, but was Bowsers arc really such great storytelling that it’s worthy of not being spoiled? Ofc not. It would’ve been better to focus on that to drum up interest vs spoiling the most hype parts of the movie.
