Looking to switch careers from an Urban planner to Project manager what do you guys think ?
Been in urban planning for about 1.5 years and the market feels extremely slow for entry-level opportunities. On top of that, I have a Geography degree rather than a dedicated Urban Planning degree, and from what I can tell a master’s seems almost mandatory to advance in the field.
In the meantime, my current employer offered me a lateral move if I get my CAPM by end of year, I can transition from Junior Planner to Associate Project Manager. No pay raise, just a title change.
A few questions for the community:
Is project management a realistic path to a stable career from this background?
Would the Geography degree be a hindrance in PM roles?
