Will I be terminated?
For about two years now, I have worked for a large tech company in sales. Over the past few months, leadership has started to micromanage everyone across the sales organization. When I joined two years ago, the company used to care more about the revenue that was being brought in instead of metrics. As long as you brought revenue in, calls didn’t matter much.
I have always exceeded and hit my quota every quarter that I have been at this job. At the end of March, I was placed on a 30-day coaching plan. The required metrics across our sales organization is that reps need to get 25 dials a day, 2 hours of talk time a day (these are the main metrics). Hitting my dials has never been a challenge for me. The 2 hours of talk time a day seems a bit unrealistic. I typically average 45 minutes to 1 hour and 15 minutes a day. There are some days where it’s hard to get people on the phone or keep them on the phone, so it’s challenging to keep up with talk time. Some days I do have below 45 minutes but always above 20 minutes. Those are the days when no one is answers and I get a lot of voicemails or talk to one or two people.
There are 24 people on my team and there are three people that have consistently hit 2 hours of talk time. I know this because my manager posts these metrics in our group chat so it’s visible to everyone on the team. More than half of the team does not hit this metric. My manager sent our group chat a message last week that the standard is 2 hours a day. While this may not seem like much, I have consistently brought in 30k a week in revenue. However, revenue is no longer a metric for us. Going back to the 30 day coaching plan, I was placed on it for not hitting two hours of talk time. For people who weren’t hitting their talk time, they would have to attend a weekly “call camp,” where you have to prepare 40 calls/customers to call out to for 3 hours. You have coaches watching over you and listening to conversations.
Last week, I met with my manager and she said my talk time has improved as well as other metrics. The company has an AI tool they require us to use to simplify our responsibilities. I’ve stated to use it more so this was another metric that improved week to week.
My manager and I typically meet weekly on Wednesday. They had put a meeting on my calendar for this Friday but it just got changed to next monday. No HR person has been invited. It shows that it’s just a 1x1 meeting. When I was placed on the coaching plan, my manager said that at the end of the 30 days, they’d review it and HR would get involved if there weren’t any improvements. Talk time is the only metric I did not consistently hit.
I would actually like for them to terminate versus me quitting or giving two week notice because I already have another job lined up and training begins in a few weeks. For the new job, you must complete the training before actually beginning the job and it’s not paid. I would prefer to get terminated because I may be eligible for unemployment since I would be terminated for performance. While I didn’t hit that one metric, I still made improvements and I did my job. I didn’t just neglect my responsibilities or didn’t do work at all.
I also want to say that if I don’t get fired, that’s completely fine. I will eventually have to give my two weeks when I started my training. I just think it’d be better to potentially receive unemployment while going through the training.
Please let me know if anyone knows when terminations typically happen.
