Did I mess up or did I dodge a bullet?

So basically me and my ex broke up and he decided that he wanted to come back and be friends with benefits telling me that possibly we might get back together, but then he tells me possibly he might get with somebody else, but I am his first option whenever he’s ready for a relationship again so the fact that he’s telling me all this stuff makes me feel uneasy so yes, I did a childish thing and made a fake account and texted him off of there. He found out it was me and he told me that there’s no future between us anymore and he just wanted sex, but he’s not gonna use me like that then he said that he really wanted it to be him as in us getting back together I’m just not understanding. How can you sit there and not choose me and tell me that possibly you might get with somebody else but I do feel like I messed up because I could’ve stayed his friend and possibly got him back with him but that same day he did tell me he didn’t love me in the next minute. He told me he loved me and in the next minute, he told me he didn’t love me so I was confused. I’m 22 he’s 22
