The main character being the worst part of the story

Seems like such a common thing in litrpg for the main character to be the worst part of the story. I do understand that people can have a different taste than me and im fine with that its just so often that these massively popular books have a main character that makes me want to gauge my eyes out with a spoon. The main examples that come to my mind being Jason from He Who Fights With Monsters, Arlo from Mage Tank, Jake from Primal Hunter, etc.

I can put up with most of them, for example the humor and story of Mage Tank more or less make up for any short comings the main character has.

But it does just seem like a super common thing that LitRPG has a problem with making likeable mcs.
