Bergman and swift

I meant to write this a while ago after my first watch of Persona and was so excited to flesh this out because the influence is glaring. There's spoilers ofc ahead so heed with caution.

Directed by Ingmar Bergman, Persona is considered one of the most influential films of all time, directly inspiring filmmakers like Lynch. It's one of those movies that most serious cinephiles study. The movie explores themes of psyche, iconography, acting and directing, homosexuality, and of course, blurred lines across relationships and personality.

Elisabet is a stage actress who goes mute and in turn is institutionalized. Under the care of Alma a blonde lithe nurse who looks uncannily like her (this is an important plot element), Elisabet moves thru the film having taken on a more "backseat" observer or directoral seat. Nurse Alma takes special interest in Elisabet's case, at first attempting to "crack" her, then deeming her a close friend, and over the course of the film developing a sort of parasocial relationship with her (all while Elisabet remains mute). The rest of the film is hard to put into words because of the experimental nature of the film but in essence- reality is blurred as both Elisabet and Alma seem to coalesce into one and the same person, separate again, then seemingly their roles reversed. There's a lot packed in the movie and I think a lot of the parallels and direct Swift inspiration is is self explanatory in these images.

Edit: I forgot to mention! Alma and Elisabet are in a remote cabin by the beach for most of the movie
