Remote internships?

Are remote internships a thing? I'm a Chinese international student studying at a university in the UK (4 years total, I'm doing a work placement year with my course). Since coming to the UK, I've basically lost interest in the idea of staying in the UK after I graduate. I have a family member in Canada, and I've always been a little interested in moving and working in Canada, so I want to give moving to Canada (especially Toronto) a shot.

I want to improve my chances of finding a job in Canada right out of university, so I think internships are my best bet. Since there isn't any way for me to go to Canada without a visa (which costs money that I don't have), I want to see if remote internships are a thing and if I can land one.

Any thoughts or guidance? I specifically want to do a marketing or editorial internship.
