Is my friend's brain slower than a 90yr or are my expectations too high?

So my friend wanted me to teach him brawlhalla and I told him fine and in the practice tool I ofc taught him how to gravity cancel because it's a core thing to know imo, so I come back a few days later and he asks why his gravity cancels are so inconsistent and I say it's just his controller being delayed. So he looks it up and says that he didn't know the dodge has to be neutral without any directions and blames it on me for not specifying it and my argument was I thought it was pretty simple to think about because I never needed to discover it myself and just took it as a simple fact. So the question is "is my friend's brain slower than a 90yr or are my expectations too high?"
