Can we make pet adoption easier by training shelter dogs first? (Looking for trainers in Bangalore)
Hey everyone,
I’ve been thinking a lot about this and wanted to get your thoughts.
India is clearly moving towards pet parenting, and we all hear the “Adopt, Don’t Shop” narrative more than ever now. From my experience working in animal rescue and building a pet adoption app, I can see two very clear things:
• There are a lot of people who want to adopt
• There are even more dogs in shelters/NGOs waiting for a home
But there’s a gap.
A lot of potential adopters hesitate because they’re unsure about things like:
– basic behaviour
– potty training
– leash/off-leash walking
– overall adjustment at home
👉 What if train the shelters/NGOs Dogs before adoption?
Things like etiquette, potty training, leash discipline, social behaviour, etc.
I feel this could:
- Make adoption much more approachable for first-time pet parents
- Reduce post-adoption drop-offs/frustration
- Improve the overall quality of life for these dogs
For context — I’m currently building Floofy, a pet adoption platform focused on connecting verified adopters with rescued dogs and cats 🐶
The goal is to make adoption more structured, trustworthy, and accessible (instead of the current scattered WhatsApp/Facebook group system).
This idea feels like a natural next step — but I know execution is everything here.
So I wanted to ask:
• Do trainers / rescuers here think this is practical?
• What would be the cost, effort, and challenges?
• Has anyone tried something like this in India already?
If you’re a dog trainer (especially in Bangalore) or have experience with shelter/rescue work, I’d love to connect and maybe even pilot this idea together.
Open to honest feedback — even if you think this won’t work.
