My client's 4-year-old blog posts are suddenly getting featured by reporters. Here's what changed.

Wins

This is wild and I need to share it because it proves you don't need to write new content constantly. (If you don't have time)

My client wrote a bunch of blog posts when she launched her website 4 years ago.

Two months ago, I optimized them. Didn't rewrite from scratch. Just updated and optimized what was already there.

Last week I checked her analytics, and I see traffic and AI mentions. I investigate and find out that reporters are discovering her old blog posts and citing them in their own articles.

Reporters are just finding her content, seeing it's valuable, and featuring it.

And it gets better: AI tools are now pulling from these same posts when people ask questions in her niche.

Same content. Written 4 years ago. Just optimized properly. Now working amazingly and she is very happy :)

Here's how I optimized those blogs

I didn't touch the core content. Her expertise and advice were solid. I just made them findable and usable.

SEO basics:

  • Rewrote title tags to match what people actually search
  • Updated meta descriptions to be specific and compelling
  • Added proper H1, H2, H3 structure (she had no hierarchy before)
  • Inserted target keywords naturally in first paragraph and subheadings
  • Made URLs cleaner and more descriptive
  • Added FAQs section

Internal linking:

  • Linked old posts to each other where relevant
  • Connected them to her service pages
  • Created topic clusters so related content is linked together
  • Added contextual links instead of generic "click here"

Images and media:

  • Added alt text to every image (all of them had none)
  • Compressed images that were slowing load time
  • Replaced broken or missing images
  • Added relevant screenshots, original images, and examples where helpful

Content updates:

  • Changed dates from 2020 to the current year where appropriate
  • Updated any outdated statistics or examples
  • Removed references to old trends or defunct tools
  • Added "Last updated: [date]" to show freshness

Technical stuff:

  • Requested reindexing in Google Search Console after updates
  • Fixed any broken outbound links
  • Made sure pages were mobile-friendly

That's it. Most posts took 30-45 minutes to optimize. Not writing from scratch. Just making existing content work harder.

You probably have content that could do this exact thing. Most people wrote posts, published them, and forgot about them.

Pick your oldest blog posts. Spend 30 minutes each updating them with the steps I listed. Request reindexing. Check back in 2 weeks.
