Constant teacher turnover at daycare, can I get out of the 2-month notice period and get my deposit back?
Looking for advice from Vancouver parents who may have been in a similar situation.
My 2.5 yo goes to a group daycare. It’s been fine BUT 7 teachers have left in 5 months, that’s basically the entire staff turning over. We were never proactively informed of any of these changes, we’d just show up and notice a new face. I sent a written email raising concerns and never got a reply. Today they informed me that a new teacher has a “family emergency” and they’re not sure if she’s coming back. She had only been there for about 2 weeks. All other teachers are also new and don’t know the kids.
The contract has a 2-month notice period. I’ve already given notice after the last teacher left because I was done with the constant change, but I want to pull my son out now because all these constant changes are genuinely bad for children’s development and I no longer have confidence in the program. I’m hoping to make a case that the level of instability and the failure to address my concerns justify waiving or shortening the notice period and returning our deposit.
Has anyone successfully negotiated early exit from a daycare contract in Vancouver? Any advice on how to approach this? Just FYI both director and a manager dont really care.
