For those with the iPhone 17/CarPlay display issue
FYI, I have composed a feedback letter if anybody wants to copy and paste it as it best works for you, and email it to Tcook@apple.com. (It will go to an admin who will handle it appropriately). Maybe the more of these letters we can send them, the better? Content as follows, feel free to copy/personalize it/edit/amend. ⬇️
Since upgrading to the iPhone 17 generation, Apple CarPlay on my 2024 Honda Goldwing (Firmware 2024.11) has become unusable due to severe display pixelation and "digital handshake" failures. This issue was not present on previous iPhone hardware running the same iOS versions.
The issue appears to be a mismatch between the iPhone 17’s high-bitrate data stream and the bike's infotainment decoder. The connection frequently drops or reverts to a low-bandwidth "pixelated" state, suggesting a failure in the iAP2 handshake protocol or a power negotiation conflict specific to the iPhone 17 hardware stack. I have verified this using multiple Apple-certified cables and isolated it specifically to the iPhone 17 generation.
I am requesting that this be escalated to the CarPlay Engineering Team. An iPhone software update is needed to improve the backward compatibility of the iPhone 17’s USB-C data stack with established automotive and motorcycle infotainment systems.
Thank you!
