In need for advice for my use case

New to the world of glasses after about 2 years of denial , I have age related astigmatism, I do wear sunglasses 8-10 hrs a day so very comfortable having frames on. For work , I drive and stop , go in and out of the sun and also need to read off a computer or hand held , sometimes having to focus on very little objects , and I have been recommended progressive lenses , and to my understanding can help avoid having to have 2 pairs constantly , so I have been trying to find an all in one solution also considering photochromic , my concern is that for driving they will not get dark enough , and also not clear fast enough to when I need low light , as I said I constantly change lighting conditions. I’d appreciate any thought or experience as I initially got price tag shock when I got my exam and they came up with. 900$ solution for me without even showing me what I’m getting , it was for clear pair and sunglasses pair.
