Was our Pest Control useless?

Actively seeking some key information one what we are dealing with.

So first thing first is Bedbugs have definitely been sited and confirmed by PC. I’d add by sheer panic in discovering we went and bought every possible over the counter insecticide and started using them a lot of them were dead and thus we cleaned up a bit and also started steaming furniture etc.

Now we have only moved in 6 months ago. The property was apparently vacant for over 2 years before we moved in (supposedly anyway) however.

We share a whole wall with the neighbouring property about 2 months ago I noticed black bags in their back garden. Now I thought nothing of this at the time because I didn’t think anything of it as I’ve never had bed bugs or known anyone that’s had them my whole life.

Anyway, I had only been bitten for 2 days in a row which is what made me investigate. Went without marks on the bedding to suddenly a lot. Now I’m entirely convinced it’s a migration from the neighbour. We used to hear a child crying everything night but haven’t for about 4-6 weeks (haven’t heard anything for weeks, like 0 movement and curtains been shut since. There windows were open for a whole week and then we noticed this absolute stench throughout the house 2 weeks ago. Like super oiling greasy sorta smell and it was the whole upstairs of the house and bizarrely the bathroom on the opposite side. Then I kept getting a bizarre waft in the bathroom, hallway and the room closest to the shared wall (ironically not where we found them as they were actually found on the unshared outer wall)

Anyway, I’m not entirely convinced by the PC. I explained all of this and was told that bedbugs don’t smell and you wouldn’t be able to smell them (Everything elsewhere says otherwise and that smell is common) I just smell ground corriander and it smells very similar (not the same as the greasy/oily smell that one night)

Anyway, the PC says he only found 2 bed bugs (I’m not entirely surprised we went absolutely ham in the 2 days before they came. However, I’m not entirely convinced they’ve done a thorough job. Loads of items around the house haven’t been moved so I don’t understand how they would have ‘thoroughly investigated’. They said they’d steamed every piece of furniture (Some of those pieces of furniture I left things in tactical positions in which you’d need to move to have steamed and they were still in place) and they said they’ve sprayed Insecticide all around the edges and the stairs. When we got back after they had ‘finished’. I could clearly see some spray spots but maybe 3. Only upstairs not anywhere else at all in the property and I can smell it on the carpet and in some spots but nowhere else.

Final info: we’ve not been anywhere, not bought anything second hand for over 6 months. Only just had bites show up and there were roughly 100 that we had killed before the PC got here as well.

PC says only 2 dead ones found and not to use DE until they’ve finished all treatments (about 12 weeks in total) I want to put DE in all the voids so I’m more confident. Not entirely sure what to do, but given a whole cupboard hasn’t even been emptied and is directly at the shared wall and it smells musty I’m not confident they aren’t in there.

Any highly expert PCs here that would be confident enough to evaluate what I’ve said and determine whether it sounds like an expected level of treatment?
