Here is my extensive review of a therapy office that would fall under the category of venting.

TW: Medical

I highly recommend reading [name]'s review on this therapy office. I have my own experience (7 years of being with this practice) which has a few parallels.

A lot of therapists here don't use DBT and also they didn't listen/didn't care about what I wanted. They act cold and overly polished and talk to you like HR rather than a human. The psych evaluator said "you cant have autism because you expressed empathy for the person on the card" I even tried to explain cognitive empathy to her. I would have gotten a lot more support from my school's special ed department if they knew I had autism, I got diagnosed three years later by a different practice. Seemed like she was relying on stereotypes, as you can see, many other reviews also mention autism.

The therapists barely took notes and frequently got members of my family and the friends I mentioned confused, and times they didnt respected my boundaries were pretty upsetting called them "preferences". It is also extremely hard to cancel appointments. I use growtherapy/flexible online therapy now because of constantly getting charged for missing/being late to appointments (and insurance changed). If getting to therapy/scheduling therapy is a major stressor, kind of defeats the purpose. Also not near a bus station, so not ideal for commutors and non-drivers. Also hate to speculate many of these people seem like they never go outside. I talked to chatgpt about my experiences and it said that not helping someone get out of a vulnerable state at the end of a session is not helpful. Also, if a patient tells you they don't want to be in therapy that day while at the session, don't force them to stay for the profit.

~Someone who was forced to do weekly individual cbt therapy by my mother from age 12-19 for "emotional disturbance caused by family" I needed family therapy ffs my parents are stupid and don't care about what I want. to their credit, multiple therapists told me family therapy would be better but didnt tell my mom that.

Here are some pros of this practice so you don't think I am a total debbie downer:

Maybe you prefer a cold therapist who only does CBT. Maybe a positive yet vulnerale mindset is the only thing you need, and you're not getting bullied/harassed in your life because of it. Maybe you have a fairly simple life and are satisfied with it.

Also, the psychiatrists were good. Were very careful with dosages and never went "overboard" they spoke with me directly about my medications instead of my mom, even as a minor. (My mom is incompetent, thank god).
