35 year old man, looking for some ideas
Ok, so some of you may know that im not the 35 year old man, but my partner is.
Partner has a history of extremely long sleeps. When he was a teen this manifested in 14 hour sleep cycles, but I dont think this was ever investigated. As an adult he will sleep 12plus hours if able, though he is rarely able.
Last year he had labs drawn for possibly the first time ever. Many things were drawn including a TSH. TSH returned at 2.5. I felt it was a little elevated. Liver came back a little high as well, but other than that all was well.
Fadting labs were drawn this past weekend and oh boy. TSH returned at 3(labs taken at 7am). Liver out of range, sugar out of range, testosterone low, kidneys out of range, just a whole bunch of poor results. Some of this could be age. Doctor is blaming weight( around 240 at 6 ft tall, so chubby but not extremely so).
As a thyroid patient myself I see my fiance suffering from heartburn, muscle cramps, fatigue, not feeling refreshed after sleep(he does use CPAP and is very consistent and compliant), abnormal lab results despite very positive changes in diet and activity within the last year, low testosterone, non alcoholic fatty liver, and then I see slightly elevated TSH and think- there's the culprit. I asked him to ask the doctor for labs for free t3 free t4, iron, and vit D. Doctor is resistant to this and thinks its not necessary. Says just to lose weight. Problem is he works a very physical job, has always shed weight easily in the past, and even though he has made healthy changes the weight wont budge.
Does anyone else feel like I may be on the right track here? Trust me, last thing I want for him is a thyroid issue, but without knowing if iron or something else is causing the fatigue that is currently my only idea. Anyone else have any insight?
