Any advice ???

Just out of surgery with my 1 year old golden. We woke up this morning to puke and diarrhea through the house. We immediately rush him to the urgent care and he's in surgery an hour later.

Apparently he had eaten wood and it tore a hole in his small intestine. Our vet said it was a 50 50 chance of recovery. Im just devastated, I never expected to be dealing with the loss this young. I guess my question is haa anyone else has similar problems ?

I've googled everything I can and the outcome either is good or just horrible. Any insight from you guys is helpful thanks
