Career pivot into facilities
Currently unemployed and looking to pivot into facilities, ideally as a facilities assistant or coordinator.
My background is in office management, where I interacted regularly with the facilities team for questions, requests, and general back-and-forth when issues came up. I also submitted tickets through their system and coordinated vendors for things like office lunches and small events, so I got a good sense of how they operated day to day.
After being laid off, I realized the part of my role I enjoyed most was the operational side and being involved in how the space runs.
How realistic is it to pivot into facilities from this kind of background? I’d ideally like to start in a more junior role to learn the fundamentals and grow from there.
Also curious, are in-house roles generally easier to break into compared to third-party companies like JLL or CBRE?
Would appreciate any insight, especially from anyone who’s made a similar transition.
