How do I move on from my Work Trauma as a Caregiver.

I (23)F was a private caregiver for a elderly lady. In my state you don't have to get certified as a CNA to become a caregiver. Though experience is better.

Anyways lets get to the point. I was hired to work for her 3 days out of the week, started off great. She lived in a senior home and all I really did was clean her apartment, cook her meals and laundry. Not even a month sets in, water leaks from the ceiling.

Ok... no biggie, until large amounts of mold is visible on the ceiling, walls and floors. It was a building issue. There were even times I was scared to go into work because the ceiling could collapse. And yes, I contacted my managers, but unfortunately since the company i worked at had no controll of the building maintenance, I had to take care of all of the leaking myself.

During the months, I had helped this woman move into a new home, even though it wasn't my job. I am just a caregiver and I could only do so much.

It got so bad I resented the company. My manager had a number to her social worker. It wasn't my job to help her pack, clean the flooded building, make sure the fire alarm didnt cause a spark with the moldy water. I had even had other senior citizens who were neighbors with my ex clients ask me for help.

My "managers" promised me they did all they could... but no they didn't. If they had contacts to her social worker, why did I do all this work.

And before you comment "as a caregiver, isn't it your job to help anyways?"

Yes and no, depending on pay rate and contract.

I legally wasn't even allowed to drive this woman around because this company didn't have insurance to cover us both!!! But I drove her to her new home and used my own car for all her belongings because I felt like it was the right thing to do! And even though I resent my ex client, I'm happy I did because a week after she moved out, the ceiling had collapsed in her room and another room down the hall.

I was only supposed to do light cleaning and cooking. But I stayed to help a old woman. She was nice at first. But due to me helping her, she became obsessive, calling me on my days off, having mental break downs and begging me to stay longer when my shift was over. No she had no kids, no siblings, and her husband had passed. And no just because she's old I had learned that i owed her no obligation.

Now all I ask is, how do I move on? Still to this day I am so scared of a job taking advantage of me. I know I sound like a gen z lazy ass but im not. It wasn't my job to do all those things, It wasn't my job to pack, move, call apartments within her budget range, set appointments, clean flooded water, and so much more...

One thing I hated the most was that my manager didn't thank me, I had to confront him to give me a raise and thank me... but i still don't think he really understood what I had done.... I hate this work force and I am slowly and slowly hating older people. I believe its my "nice" personality. And that im a woman. Just because im nice to you, doesn't mean I want to hear your life story. I'm doing my job and leaving. Now I work as a house cleaner. And with my experience as a caregiver, some people expect me to help with care when needed. But im not risking a law suit since it isn't my job...

How do I move on from being taken advantage of? My pride and dignity hurts to this day. Sometimes I wonder why my old manager didn't call her social worker. Why didnt my manager do his job and actually get the right people to help? Why me...
