AITAH for getting rid of my chihuahua for a newborn baby and telling my child the truth about animals
I got rid of my chihuahua because i was having a baby and my daughter got disapointed at me. She said i rather have that dog than a baby brother. But I then told my daugther the truth about animals. I told her that pets come and go because things change in life. You can have a child, or move houses or give them away when you outgrow your obession of pets as a child.
And i also told her animals are surival driven. they cant feel too much affection or devotion like people do. They may like and care about you but thats just it. They wont sacrifice their food for you, and if they had the chance theyd save themselves before saving you.
Animals look out for themselves, people look after each other. That is why we priotize human beings first. I told her it just how an adult thinks.
After the talk my child understood me and im glad she was about to grow out of the fairytale thought of animals have complex emotions like people do.
But a few days later I was shamed by some crazy neighbor for taking away the chihuahua to a couple i know. The neighbor said that the chihuahua will cry for me and my daughter.
No im sure it wouldnt. It might miss my family but not too much. Its an animal, they move on from their owners quickly. So am i really a jerk for teaching my child an important life lesson?
