Unpopular opinion: 90% of “healthy” energy bars or protein bars sold in India are just expensive junk food. Here’s why.
Before anyone says it, yes, I make millet energy bars. So I’m biased. But hear me out.
Look at the ingredient list on most popular Indian energy bars:
• Ingredient #1 or #2 is almost always sugar, glucose syrup, or refined flour
• “Natural flavours” is doing a lot of heavy lifting
• Protein numbers only look good because the bar weighs 60-80g, scale it down and it’s not impressive
We built Prokhana specifically because of this problem. Millet base, no refined sugar, no maida, 5g protein in a 25g bar. Small pack, honest numbers.
Genuinely curious, what do you look at first on a nutrition label when buying a snack? And does anyone else feel like the Indian health snack market is mostly marketing over substance?
(We’re a new brand and I’ll answer honestly if you want to ask anything about our product too)
