I only existed to be seen

I am thirty. I am a cis-male. I understand that I have many privileges. But I wonder why some seem so blind to the circumstances of my life as a man. I was always raised to only have the next generation. My own dreams and voice never mattered. I was always raised, as a male, to be quiet and be visually appealing to others. To laugh softly and support. I was raised to sharpen my skills in conversations, music, and arts to attract mates. To sit there, look nice, be quiet unless spoken to, and make children. My voice never mattered, as a man. Neither did my dreams. I could never run about or get dirty. That was my life and limitations because I was a male. Yet, society seems to act like they were not. I just wonder why.
