My op experience. My goodness
Greetings,
I had my gb taken out 28th April. Planned since February. It was delayed due to my husband having a liver resection for his cancer and a little buffer zone after his procedure (thank goodness we did).
I was super chill about it. Cool as a cucumber. But over the constant ache.
Because im on wegovy I had to do an extended fast and didnt eat from the Sunday evening before my op (Tuesday admission 9am).
I went in for the op around 11 but didnt emerge in recovery awake til maybe 3.
I remember someone saying my canula had come out, so that was replaced and waking up in increasingly excruciating pain, sobbing. They gave me like 400micrograms of fentynyl and eventually wheeled me over to the other side high as a kite coming in and talking to me about the procedure.
I was sent home before I think i was ready, with no pain script. That was about 5pm
I came home and tried to sleep and get comfortable but I couldn't. By 730 im sobbing in so much pain in my chest and around my back and abdomen. 8pm was back in ED vomiting for a second time, hyperventilating because just breathing was killing me.
They gave me anti-nausea intravenously which made me nauseous and vomit again, just bile. Nothing else to give.
Eventually I was given iv fentynyl which stopped the pain and the nausea subsided. And I was admitted to a ward around midnight for surgical to check in on me in the morning.
Suspected trapped gas causing the pain in my chest and around into my back and up into neck - i also figured this myself.
Im back home now, as the trapped gas has eased and I can pain manage at home. They did say I could stay again if that made me more comfortable.
Juicy deets: Apparently my gallbladder was on top of my liver, it was so big. It was vascular and angry. Bled a little.
Words like, full of puss, sludgey, like a rock, were used. One described it's size as an eggplant. I asked him if he was joking. He said no.
After my one and only attack in December. It just ached, constant, but tolerable.
Sounds like it might have burst soon and been worse.
Tl;dr: trapped gas is your enemy
