Model Year Revision for 2.8 Duramax Piston Holes / Trans Shutter?
Looking at picking up a Canyon or Colorado with the 2.8 Duramax again and wanted to watch out for the stuck injector / piston hole issue along with the 6 speed shutter problem if possible.
I previously purchased a 2017 model new but only kept the truck for 8-9 months since it was too small / I was growing my business and hauling heavy. Who knows, maybe dodged a bullet.
Fast forward 8ish years, I am trying to find a good commuter truck and would be open to another diesel model again. I know the early year model trucks were very prone to the piston skirt / wrist pin / blow torch injector failure AND the valve body transmission issue with the well documented shutter problem.
Was there a hard cut off year where the issues were addressed? Or are the newer model trucks still susceptible to those issues just as much?
It is my understanding the later model years, 2019-2022, are less problematic with those mentioned issues but wanted to confirm that hopefully.
I thought the 6L50 was revised to have longer valve slides at some point to address the shutter issue - could be wrong.
Emissions also not a concern, they will be removed after purchasing. Only other thing I really know to watch is for timing chain and pulley replacement. May throw a trans cooler on to help with temps.
Nothing else in the truck class size appeals to me - Taco, Ranger or Frontier since the MPG is very lack luster for the size. Upper 20s - 30+ is what I'm after just running around empty.
Thanks for any feedback
