I used to play Elite on my Xbox for many years until Odyssey dropped and Frontier discontinued console support. Recently after a long game hiatus, I've gotten a new PC and I did a full account transfer to return to my old favorite game. I've been through grad school and a divorce and so many things during those years that it really feels like returning to a simpler time in my life.

So, I log in and get into my favorite ship, my Krait Phantom. I've spent so many hours traveling through the deep dark in this ship and I've loved it for so long. But as soon as the HUD pops up, I immediately realized....

I had named it after my wife at the time, my now ex-wife. We had been together for 12 years; we've been apart for a year. It still hurts at times. So, I log off immediately, depressed.

Afterwards, I follow this Elite Dangerous reddit for a while and the itch to play just grows stronger. So tonight I made a decision. I logged in, got in my old Phantom, strip it of anything good and sell it immediately. Then I go out, buy an entirely new Phantom, gear it up, switch up the livery and name it the Renaissance. A little overkill but the ceremony seemed necessary and cathartic.

Life doesn't always go the way we want to, but we can start over and enjoy things again.

See you all out there in the dark o7
