This sub looks like a great place to actually share my bios for some of my beloveds, so here goes.

Peter Paul Suleyman (but he only gets calls Peter rather than Pete when he's in trouble!) was born in the village of Karkha in Lebanon on the 4th of June, 1952, the youngest child of Melkite Catholics, Sarah and Chabel, with one older brother, George. In 1960, the family moved to Melbourne, Australia.

Growing up too poor for a TV set, Pete and his family spent a lot of time listening to the radio (TV arrived late in Australia, in 1956, and a lot of families couldn't afford it for a long time. The Suleymans weren't tragically poor by any stretch, but they weren't super rich either). Pete loved it and wanted to be a radio host himself from very young.

He soon started a friendship with another young Lebanese boy who also moved from Karkha, Khalil Chamoun. But at 15 he met Wendy Landry, and immediately fell in love with her, and he starts ignoring his closest friend for the girl he's now head over heels for. The friendship breaks down. One thing Wendy had that Khalil didn't was a father who owned a radio station, the fictional 3XZ.

Pete started as a panel operator at 3XZ fresh out of year 12 (the same year he married his high school sweetheart), and as an occasional guest presenter throughout the 1970s. But it took until 1980 until he was finally given his own show, under the name Pete Landry to try and mitigate some of the casual Aussie racism. But the station was now failing, rating consistently slipping. So he was soon paired with a presenter named Harvey Killeen.

Harvey Killeen, much older than him, 45 to his 28, was a radio icon in the 1950s, before moving to London to pursue a stage career in the 60s. By the 1970s he'd come back to Australia to cash in on a now successful film industry (this period of time was known as the Australian New Wave and gave the world Mad Max, amongst others). Killeen suddenly quit the film industry and went into hiding in 1978, not long after the release of his most successful film. This 3XZ collab was supposed to be Killeen's "comeback".

Pete is struggling, his new co-host doesn't seem to like him very much, and his marriage to the woman he thought was his soulmate is now on the rocks. But soon, a friendship with his ornery older coworker blossoms. He also rekindles his friendship with Khalil, who now works in construction. Both of them notice, before he does, that he's deeply unhappy. He has little creative freedom at 3XZ, and he and Wendy fight constantly. She thinks he's too much of a workaholic, more in love with radio than her.

And as the marriage continues to break down, his friendship with Harvey starts shifting and changing. Harvey, a gay man, is very open (with friends at least), about his sexuality. And Pete starts getting a crush that he's trying to avoid. Eventually, after Pete's boss notices the chemistry between the two hosts (who aren't yet romantically involved with each other at all), he lies to Wendy that Pete is having an affair. With nowhere else to go, Pete moves into Harvey's spare room, and they get even closer.

Aaaaaand...I'm drawing the curtains there! It's up to you to decide what happens next (I already know!)

And now, here's Pete Suleyman!
