F-1 Visa refusal & reapplication situation: my horribly unique processing case
I gave my first US visa interview in March. My uni was UT Arlington and i applied as a engineering student. my total coa after scholarship was 19k consisting of 1600$ tuition and living was the rest (which i believe is quite inflated).
in the interview, i was asked "why did you choose UTA?" and "how are your parents sponsor you?". i answered them and got a 221(g) pink slip asking for a financial check. they asked me for 5 years of tax filings and bank statements. my tax filings was approx 45k$/year and liquid cash at bank was sitting at 120k$ from last year in savings. i submitted these documents alongside my passport a few days later to the embassy.
later, i got the "APPROVED" status in CEAC portal after approx 1 week. then suddently, after 2 days, the approved status changed to "REFUSED". then i got my passport back with a 214(b) refusal slip.
i honestly dont know what went wrong or what flagged my application. some things i believe can be:
-
both parents have US tourist visa valid till 2028. (but the thing is they've been frequent US travellers, and my dad even worked for the US Embassy as financial specialist and contracting officer a few years back, so he went to U.S every 2 years or so).
-
what i said in the interview about our income: i highlighted their honorary positions and then followed up with the business (which is the main income) but i forgot to tell the officer that the positions i highlighted were honorary (like directors of a association where they dont get reimbursements). the documents we submitted of 45k were solely from business, which we thought was enough for my COA. so there might have been a last second discrepancy check between what i said at the interview vs my documents. however, i didnt lie there.
-
my uncle and aunt went to the US in 2021 on a diversity visa and currently reside in michigan, but nothing was mentioned about their status or about them at all.
-
social media: which i doubt is the case because i dont have any anti us posts or political agendas in the accounts ive submitted. this is the reddit account i submitted and its a genuine account without any harsh public displays of opinions or propogandas.
-
i'd kept a student led policy newsletter on the ds-160 charitable organizations you've worked for (however i shouldnt have kept thehre because the place where i wrote economic blogs and commentaries was not a official organization, just a project led by highschoolers). but i dont think this was a problem either because the content was about my country's economy and new economic and public policies.
i am planning to reapply this may. i honestly dont know what ive been rejected for, and even if its just for ego, im planning to ask the VO myself about where I was flagged, because i was very confident. things ive changed could be financial documents, addition of honorary position contracts of my sponsors, and land and property valuation. academically, nothing can be changed, i did give an ielts and scored 8.5 overall so maybe i should mention that. besides that, im planning to say that my intent and clarity towards the interview has changed and im here to properly articulate my situation.
do you guys think this is a good plan/idea? ive already paid the CGI fee and now only scheduling the IV is left.
