Genuine question, what is the point of Medium Pen ballistics now? (slight, lighthearted rant)

The (original) point of that entire classification of weapon was to tear through Medium Pen Armor... and by consequence of this idea on the bug front was to counter Hive Guards,

I'm confused on how this is now a problem.

How many other bugs have medium pen armor?

Bile Spewers heads? You somewhat recently gave them an explicit (yet always intended, lol) extreme light pen weak spot in the mouth on the only spot that was mostly medium armor (the head).

They've also been explosive fodder for forever, so medium pen ballistic weapons were never the recommended choice.

Burrow Strain Warriors? Something that was added a year and a half later?

Bugs.

The Hive Guard was meant to be the predominate medium pen target on the bugs. Its role as a stop gap hunker bug was against aimless light pen spray like AP2 shotguns at range or SMGs, not medium pen rifles.

That's the bug's entire job. That *continues* to be its entire job. To stand there, eat a specific kind of lead to the face, and die.

Otherwise it stands there, eats lead in anywhere not the face, and dies.

Are we suddenly going to give Devastators heavy armor chassis because people aren't hitting the red weak spots or heads like 'they're supposed to'?

Since when was medium pen weapons doing their job now something wrong?

If you want to buff the Hive Guard out of its role of a stationary target that dies to literally everything while standing still you need to give it more agency or some sort of ability.

And if the Hive Guard costs 'too many points to the bug breach' as it was, then I don't know, lower the points if it's too expensive or something???????

Racking it up to AV4 or bust on weak spots just robs the Med Pen class purpose. The result that the Hive Guard plays is still the same. The Hive Guard stands still dies to anything, except, Medium Pen can no longer Medium Pen.

You haven't changed the gameplay, you just made Medium Pen pointless.

Why in Liberty's Linens would you ever bring a Medium Pen weapon to the bugs now? This is a genuine question.

"Errrm, you can still use Med Pen weapons like you do light pen ones. Shoot weak spots, flank, etc."

Medium Pen is MEANT to hit Medium armor. That is ITS JOB. To make a HARD surface softer.

I don't bring Medium Pen to Bots to carefully hit heads like a COWARD, I want my enemy to SEE my gun to CHEW THROUGH METAL.

I want to TEAR through CHITIN.

WHERE IS THE MEDIUM ARMOR THAT I'M SUPPOSED TO HIT??? SHOW ME THE ARMOR!!!

On a more serious note you also recently rebalanced Medium Pen weapons to have worse durable damage than Light Pen counterparts before you did this for the Hive Guard.

So not only does Medium Pen do less damage when the AP is above the enemy AV (such as Charger butts) but now we also have no medium armor to actually hit.

If you turned all the Medium Pen weapons into Light Pen weapons ALMOST nothing would change except a couple of enemies the bot front.

Am I wrong saying that? Other than gunships and Dev chassis, what's the damn point? You NEED medium pen chaff.
