In defence of Kitty and Season 3 (lol)
Lol, not kidding. I genuinely never thought I’d defend this show. I almost skipped S3 because it’s chaotic trash TV and the cringe is intense, but I stayed for Minho/Kitty. Surprisingly, the season addressed almost every major fan complaint from last season.
Kitty’s meddling was toned down a lot. She mostly stayed out of things unless asked or when she genuinely thought she could help, and the show leaned into the idea that her matchmaking instincts actually work. She’s messy, clumsy, and flawed, but never malicious. Lara Jean’s return felt less like fan service and more like a reminder that Kitty always means well.
They also gave Kitty more character depth: insecurity, bad information from others, and trusting information that leads her into mistakes. People complained she was awful before, but now that she’s more likable, that’s a problem too? Even the NYU storyline, while unrealistic, was somewhat softened by implying she improved academically and got help with applications.
The messy friendship dynamics never bothered me—they’ve always been chaotic, and that’s realistic for teens/young adults. Same with the cheating drama: I hate cheating plots too, but the show condemned it instead of glamorizing it, showing consequences and ripple effects. People can make mistakes and still call out others—that’s accountability.
I’m also not convinced Q’s character was ruined just to uplift Kitty. Perfect moral characters are boring. Q messing up added needed nuance and showed he’s flawed like everyone else.
I agree Kiho got a bit less exciting once the ship finally sailed—that'sthe ship name I gave them btw, idk what the real one is. People often care more about the chase than the happily ever after, and I think the show knew that. As a couple, they’re genuinely sweet—Minho is basically the perfect boyfriend while still feeling like himself, and Kitty is cute and supportive, so natural conflict is limited.
That’s why modern shows usually create outside problems instead: cheating, misunderstandings, distance, family, or other people interfering. This season used those external conflicts, but to its credit, they reflected deeper internal issues in Kiho’s relationship—one is insecure, the other fears disappointment. Their unresolved personal issues create friction even while they try to love each other well.
Honestly, people call it boring because it was healthy and swoonworthy. They were adorable together and would be seen as major green flags in a serious K-drama. Even the pregnancy misunderstanding was obvious drama logic that could’ve been solved if they hadn’t argued while angry. In another drama, we’d roll our eyes and move on.
And the “too Koreaboo” criticism misses the point—it’s basically a spoof K-drama. It’s exaggerated, funny, dramatic, and self-aware. The season wrapped things up nicely while leaving room for more. I think I recognise when a show is hoping for more while still giving people closure, and all the couples reconciling while a slight chance of seeing the future does this perfectly. They were humble and finished off lose ends in case s4 doesn't work out.
Yes, Q cheating annoyed me, but overall? They fixed a lot, gave us Kiho, and delivered exactly what this show should be: cringe, ridiculous, entertaining chaos. I rolled my eyes, laughed, kicked blankets, and had a great time.
