Another crazy dating/ relationship story!!

Personal Story

Hey guys, it’s me again… You’re never gonna believe it, but I have a story from about 2–3 years ago that isn’t exactly a dating story, but it is a relationship story! So I’ll start this off with the classic Sean warning: I’m 39F, and the guy I was dating was 27M. (I’m pretty immature myself sometimes, tend to have younger friends, and honestly prefer younger men.) It’s okay to judge—I only have myself to blame, lmao

Annnyyyyways… I was dating this guy, and we were both super invested and attached (or so I thought!). We were not living together.

I refused to let him move in because he was working odd jobs—nothing permanent. I wasn’t able to take in another human with me and my teen daughter unless they had a stable job.

So he got an offer for a good job one state over. We live in Michigan, and he got a job offer in Illinois. As much as I didn’t want to do the long-distance thing, especially since we were already a half hour away from each other, I agreed that he needed to do what was best for him and his finances, and we could figure it out.

He even made the effort to buy those long-distance bracelets where, when you’re thinking of the other person, you tap it and it lights up and vibrates the other person’s bracelet through Wi-Fi. So of course, me being a woman, I was on cloud nine. I thought this was beautiful. It was so cool. Then he asked me if, if he paid for my gas, I would drive him down to Illinois.

To show that I was feeling strong in our relationship, I agreed. I said, “We’ll figure it out. It’s all good. I just want what’s best for you.”

So I drove him down to Illinois, and up until the fifth or sixth month of our relationship, we hadn’t been intimate. We decided to finally take that step as a show of commitment between the two of us.

We stayed at a hotel that first night because his friend was at work, and I was going to end up staying on my own anyway. So he wanted to stay the night with me before I took him to his friend’s house—the friend who got him this job—and then I could leave from there.

We did spend a romantic night together, and like my first date story… it was not fine. It was not great. It was lackluster. I’m not even going to lie. So there’s that. There you go, John—no upside-down Dairy Queen situation here. It is what it is. But again, I figured, like I said with that first dating story, we could always learn together in the future.

Anyway, I took him to his friend’s house, dropped him off the next day, and we said our goodbyes. I met his friend, and we exchanged information so they could both keep me up to date on what was going on.

I took the six-hour drive home, and for the next day or two, I didn’t hear much from him except occasionally my bracelet lighting up—which, for me, was enough communication. That’s why we got them.

Then, after those first two or three days, it went dead silent for about a week.

I eventually called him directly, and he told me that he was definitely going to be moving to Illinois, but he could not continue our relationship if it was long-distance. He realized in just that first week or so that it was going to be too difficult.

When I first took him down there, I had agreed that after a month, I would go back, pick him up, bring him home, and then figure out a way to get him and all of his belongings back down to Illinois permanently.

I told him that if he was going to break up with me, I would be returning the bracelets. I would still come pick him up, but getting back to Illinois was no longer my problem.

I knew he had no vehicle down there, and I wasn’t going to leave him abandoned with no money, no access to his bank accounts, or no family. I knew this first trip to Illinois was basically a trial run. But I told him that if this was his decision, getting back down there would be on him, and he’d have to find someone else to help him.

When I dropped him off back home in Michigan, I gave him the bracelets and returned the things he had given me. He tried to give me back the things I had given him, but I refused because I didn’t want them in my house or around me. I was heartbroken. Completely destroyed at that point.

I found out only a few weeks later that he never actually moved. He stuck around. So basically, he got a free two-week vacation out of me to go see a friend. He never moved, and he’s still around the area.

So yeah… that’s fun.

Anyway, crazy relationship story. I got used. You live, you learn, and now I don’t take anybody anywhere or do anything for anybody anymore without payment upfront because—oh yeah, by the way—he never gave me money. I footed the entire bill.

But the worst part of the whole thing is that we work together at the same haunted house, so I still have to see him every season, which sucks. But it is what it is. You live, you move on, and that place is like therapy for me. I wasn’t going to let him ruin it.

He’s somebody else’s problem now, so good luck to them, I guess, lol.

By the way, to the guys or any wikimaniacs—if you ever want to come to the haunted house, I’ll absolutely pay your way through. I’m not that far from Josh - just on the other side of the bridge, about an hour from Canada bridge —and I can absolutely hook you guys up if you want a good fright this fall.
