25 year old M stressed out about applying for disability, need advice. BC, Canada
Sorry if this isn’t the right subreddit, I just need reassurance/advice.
I’m 25, male, 5’7” around 200lbs. I’ve suffered from chronic lower body disorders and injuries my whole life, the only reason I haven’t applied for disability yet is honestly because I never bothered looking it up or even really thinking about it.
Now however I am struggling financially after quitting my job and need help somewhere. The ultimate reason I quit was harassment but was already cutting my hours due to my worsening condition.
I suffer from flat feet, chronic patella femoral pain disorder in both legs, complications from a former torn meniscus in my left knee to name the issues with actual names I’ve been diagnosed with. I’ve been also told that my muscles don’t retract normally after contracting, scar tissue buildup on the bottom of my feet, and my orthopedist even said my joints up to my hip are crooked, or something along those lines.
To make matters worse, my mother knew I had flat feet from the start and brought me to my family doctor at the time who, year after year, refused to get me checked and told me to come back after a year if I’m still in pain. I think I was 16/17 when I finally got the green light for insoles (negligence at its finest, geez).
I’ve seen an orthopedist and a physiotherapist for a very long time, but haven’t in a while because of finances but also my physiotherapist didn’t really have anything new to suggest.
I’ve been prescribed insoles which I use, stretches and workouts for strengthening, and a brace for my knees, which all have helped, but I started taking HRT, which is for whatever scientific reason rough on the joints and it’s getting too much to bear. To put it in perspective, I get pain and exhaustion in my legs after a single normal sized flight of stairs.
I have been looking at jobs, and have picked up Brand Ambassador gigs but they are not consistent and enough to take away my financial stress. I have school planned out but I’d have to move which I cannot do yet and just need to survive until then.
I’m just looking for either reassurance for my upcoming doctor appointment to apply or for advice as to what I should do prior to my appointment. Thank you!
