I'm scared every night. What do I do?
I'm so scared as soon as night falls since I genuinely think that I'm haunted. I know realistically that it's probably just my schizophrenia, but others have told me they also hear the noises that I thought I was hallucinating. I've never had any hallucinations before and its not part of my official diagnosis, which is schizoaffective and not pure schizophrenia.
The hallucinations are basically knocking, some kind of cracking that sounds like someone is breaking ice and clicking noises. It follows me to the places I sleep - my parents house, all the apartments I've been living in and my friends places. The other day I heard the highest crack that I've ever heard and I immediately went into sleep paralysis, even though I was awake prior to that. Every time I hear one of the sounds my body tense up and I feel genuine dread.
I'm also scared that if it's just hallucinations - what else will my mind conjure up? Will I start seeing monsters and ghosts? I'm genuinely so scared, mostly because I'm scared of becoming scared since it's such a horrible feeling.
I should also mention that I've been experiencing paranormal stuff since childhood (and my family too) and none of our relatives want to be alone in my parents house after dark because they also think it's haunted. So I've basically been "indoctrinated" that ghosts are real for my whole life, which could be a factor.
I have an appointment with my doctor soon, but what can I do until then? Thanks in advance!
